The date is 30 January 1661, twelve years to the day after the execution, by beheading, of Charles I of England. Charles II now sits upon the throne, and Parliament, in its efforts to please the new King has tried, and executed, those involved in the trial of his father. Amongst those tried and beheaded, despite having been dead for over two years, is Oliver Cromwell. Two heads now rest upon wooden spikes at Traitors’ Gate.
